Good.
755 is probably not the right value in your case.
For instance, I am managing a website where file permissions are set to 644 and this is enough for the component to work.
The importance is that you have to make sure 'owner' has write permissions.

File permissions set to 644 did not work, I even tried 777 (files and directories) without luck. Still Error 500.

Click on 'webmaster' to ask your server support team if they can give you any idea on what is going on. Hopefully they will be responsive and give us a clue on why this occurs. Once we know what the problem is, we will be able to try and find a fix for it. Thank you!
